Wedding gold is usually the largest single purchase of jewellery a family makes, and it is often made under time pressure. A little planning removes most of the difficulty. This is how to approach it.
Think in grams, not dirhams
This is the single most useful habit. The gold rate moves daily, so a budget set in dirhams changes what it buys from one week to the next. A budget set in grams does not. Decide roughly how many grams you intend to buy, and the rate on the day becomes a detail rather than a shock.
It also makes comparison honest. Two pieces at the same price are not comparable; two pieces at the same weight are.
Buy the worn pieces first
Wedding gold usually divides into pieces worn on the day and pieces kept. If the budget is finite, spend it first on what will actually be worn afterwards — a good chain, earrings, a ring. Ceremonial weight that goes into a box the following week is the easiest place to overspend.
Karat, honestly
Higher karat means more gold and a deeper colour, but softer metal. Twenty-one and twenty-two carat are traditional for wedding sets in this region and hold their value directly. Eighteen carat is harder, holds fine detail better, and is the sensible choice for anything meant to be worn every day for the next twenty years. Many families buy both, for different pieces. Everything on our website is 18K; ask us in branch about other karats.
What to check before you pay
- The hallmark on each piece, stating the karat.
- The weight of each piece, written on the invoice, not just the total.
- The rate used that day, and the making charge, stated separately from the gold.
- The exchange terms in writing, and how long they last.
Keep the invoice. It is the document that proves karat, weight and price paid, and it is what any future exchange or valuation will be based on.
Give yourself time
Sizing, engraving and any custom work all take time, and the weeks before a wedding are the wrong ones to discover that. Start looking earlier than feels necessary. If something needs to be made rather than bought, that conversation should happen months ahead, not weeks.
Quick answers
How much gold is usual for a wedding?
There is no correct figure, and anyone who gives you one does not know your circumstances. Families here range enormously. Decide what is comfortable, in grams, and ignore comparison.
Should we wait for the rate to fall?
Nobody can time the gold rate reliably, and a wedding date does not move for it. Plan in grams and buy when you are ready.
Can pieces be exchanged afterwards?
We offer a fifteen-day exchange on unworn pieces in their original condition and packaging, at either branch, with the receipt.
If you would like to plan a wedding purchase with us, message us on WhatsApp or visit our Sharjah or Dubai branch. We are happy to work to a weight and a budget rather than sell you a set.
